Giveth and Taketh in Online Communities

Manta Tip of the Day –

The very nature of running a small business lends itself to a multitude of questions. And, sure, Google can serve up an information cup that runneth over; but if scanning a deluge of articles isn’t something you have the time or desire to do, skip it. Ask your online community instead.

Look to other entrepreneurs—those who have been there, done that—on any number of online forums where spreading knowledge or inquiring about what ails your business is encouraged. Although a recent Manta online poll showed that only 30 percent of small business owners currently use online communities, 74 percent of those participating find them beneficial. Perhaps it’s time to take advantage of this untapped resource?

Even if your questions are few (at the moment anyway), there’s a flipside to the community coin. Active participation and sharing the experience under your belt can catapult you into a thought leader and help increase your website traffic—all by supporting other small business owners and staff. As they say, it takes a village.

Check out Manta’s Community to share thoughts, ask questions and gain knowledge.
